A VAT ID does not make a VAT payer
A company registered under § 7 or § 7a of the Slovak VAT Act holds a VAT ID but is not a VAT payer — roughly one in four companies with a VAT ID. VIES reports its VAT ID as valid. That is why the registration paragraph is shown here: only a subject the Financial Administration lists as a payer (§ 4, § 4b, § 4c, § 5) is one. It decides, for example, whether the domestic reverse charge applies and whether a supplier's invoice may carry VAT at all.
