In brief
- We answer from the Czech Ministry of Finance's VAT register, asked live on every request.
- The answer says whether the subject is a payer, whether it is an unreliable payer, and which bank accounts it has published.
- When the register does not answer we return 503 — never "not a payer".
- A Czech sole trader's birth number, which is also their tax number, is neither returned nor stored.
- Publisher
- Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic (VAT register)
- Currency
- live; the register itself updates once a night
- Unreliable payers list
- read daily at 4:45 UTC for change tracking
- Endpoint
- /vat/verify/{identifier} — a Czech tax number, or the company ID of a Czech company
What it answers
- Whether a Czech subject is a VAT payer or only an identified person.
- Whether it is listed as an unreliable payer — and since when.
- Which bank accounts it has published in the register. Paying to another account can mean liability for the VAT.
- Whether it is a member of a VAT group.

- The register has a short outage around midnight Prague time every night. A 503 with a Retry-After header means "ask later", not a negative result.
- For a natural person the tax number is a birth number. A lookup by company ID does not return it; only someone who typed it sees it.
- A watched company newly listed as an unreliable payer arrives as a vat_unreliable_payer event.
